The following morning turned out to be eventful. The first thing that started was loud banging on the door at five in the morning. Akira growled as he sat up.

“Who the fuck is that? How’d they get through your wards, Lucien?” He pushed on Lucien’s shoulder.

“Ughn,” Lucien squinted his eyes. “we just got to sleep. Besides, my wards are designed to alert us if someone coming is meant to do harm to us.”

There was another round of banging on the door. I groaned, extracting myself from Shax’s arms. “I’ll get it.” I pushed off the mattress, grabbed my robe, and left the room. Akira was grumbling behind me as he got out of the bed himself. “Stay in bed, Akira. I got this.”

“Hell no.” Akira’s heat was behind me as we passed the couch where Jacob was still sleeping. “How is he sleeping through this racket?”

“One of his many great qualities.” My sarcasm dripped as I yanked open the door just as the knocking started to shake the doorframe. “Holy sh—"

“Dad?” Akira’s hands tightened on my shoulders. “I figured you wouldn’t get here for another day. At least come during daylight hours.”

The man who’d lowered his fist from where he’d been about to hit the door, was huge. Akira was huge, but Leonis? Leonis had several inches on him. He was built, with his muscles seeming to bulge out of the shirt he wore. His hair was shaved military style, but it was the same color as Akira’s; even the tips of his short hair were red. His eyes were bright yellow, which Akira confirmed later on that was actually his normal eye color since his wolf was ever present with him.

“Good to see you too, son.” Leonis’ voice sounded like a permeant growl. His eyes focused on me, and I felt extremely small. “You must be one of my son’s mates. Victoria, the one whose communicated with my goddess?”

“Uh, yeah, that’s me.” He was a whole lot of intimidating.

Color me shocked when he reached out, basically plucking me from Akira, and swung me into a crushing hug. His laughter boomed into the house, waking up the others. He even woke Jacob, who jolted upright so quickly, he tumbled off the couch onto his head. I can’t remember ever having laughed that hard.

Now we were all in the living room after making breakfast, eating it, and getting everyone coffee. Shax had brought in the chairs from the kitchen. Leonis was on the coffee table facing all of us. Jacob was sitting on the floor near me. It was fun to see him looking unkempt for once.

“Now, Victoria, how was my lady? I have not been in contact with her for centuries. Last night was the first time just hearing her voice.” Akira’s father leaned forward eagerly.

The image of Artemis flashed through my mind. “She seemed calm. Had a ton of ghost wolves with her. She’s beautiful.”

Leonis nodded as a large grin split across his face that was so eerily close to Akira’s.
